Industry intelligence suggests the inability of students to complete MWR is significantly impacting their completion of personal care worker training. In turn this impacts training organisations reputation and financial viability, and employers looking to address skilled workforce shortages.

Overview

This project produced the following outcomes and resources:

  • A series of surveys and focus groups with students, RTOs and employers established a baseline data set and identified the range of issues and barriers affecting the completion of the mandatory work placement requirements of the Certificate III
  • a guide for RTOs, employers and students that clearly articulates and simplifies the mandatory work placement processes and requirements
  • case studies of good practice demonstrating practical examples of effective work placement
  • a suite of resources, including fact sheets, templates and fact sheets relating to mandatory work placements
  • a policy and research paper that outlines in detail the issues that students face when trying to complete their work placements

Progress

This project has been completed with the launch of the work placement guide.

The HSSO would like to thank RTOs who completed the survey, and the employers, trainers, peak body representatives and students who participated in the co-design workshops.

We have also published the Policy and Research paper, which established a data set that assisted in the development of the work placement guide.
