The Self-Care Room is an online resource for aged care workers to learn about and engage in self-care activities. Created by End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC), the site has resources to discover and explore, to use now or when needed, to download and share.
Self-care can mean different things to different people. It is important in maintaining your physical, emotional, and mental health. Aged care relies on the quality and compassion of care workers in providing care to older people including older people coming to the end of their life. Self care is an important part of being able to continue to provide care.
While there are some quality tools and resources already available, a place where aged care workers can grab a self-care idea, check out where they are in the self-care process, or share their experiences was missing. The Self-Care Room is the result.
It has grown out of the generosity and wisdom of those working in aged care. While we started with a literature review and an environmental scan, co-designing and co-producing the Self-Care Room with careworkers has brought the concept to life.
