Staff Training (Disability)

Nexus Inc. are a Tasmanian based disability service provider.

Nexus recognised that the current offering of Cert III in Individual Support (Disability) was not an adequate entry skill set for support workers commencing with their organisation.

NDIS participants have a wider range of needs and therefore support workers need broader skills and knowledge – eg. understanding autism, trauma informed, psycho social, acute psychiatric etc.

The short term  project objective is to provide skills required by staff to safely carry out their roles.

Longer term benefits of the program for participants receive support include:

  • improved therapeutic and support outcomes
  • reduce risk of staff injuries (physical and psychological)
  • increase visibility of Nexus as a quality employer

The program involves:

  • employment of people under a traineeship model
  • accredited and non accredited training
  • Level 1 -trainees having 6 months of fully supervised work while undertaking stage 1 training
  • Level 2 – after 6 months trainees advance to level 2 based on satisfactory performance in work and training
