The ACCHRTO (Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Registered Training Organisation) sector are a key pillar for the successful response to the Governments Priority Reform number two (Building the Community Controlled Sector) of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. ACCHRTOs are critical to providing culturally safe training opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and supplying workforce to Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations. In Australia, there are currently 11 ACCHRTOs, all of whom are accredited to deliver the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker, Aboriginal Health Practitioner and other associated health qualifications that support the workforce needs of the ACCHO sector and ensure the integrity of their model of care.

The HSSO delivered a series of workshops which brought together key stakeholders from ACCHOs and ACCHRTOs, which served as a validation point from the gap analysis and gave participants an opportunity to share their experiences and perspectives on the priorities needed for the plan.  Following the consultation period, the HSSO, in conjunction with the Expert Advisory Group worked on developing the plan. The plan set a series of 6 main objectives, which were then broken down into a series of short (1-3 year), medium (4-7 year) and long (8-10 year) actions with key themes of governance, partnerships and engagement, capability, program delivery and sustainability.
