The HSSO has established the Aged Care Workforce Rapid Response Initiative in partnership with the Department of Health specifically to assist students completing their studies in Human Services related qualifications to complete their work placements and secure employment.

The initiative will trial a streamlined approach to connect and match students undertaking a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) with residential aged care providers looking to employ personal care workers.

The aim of the initiative is to support the growth of a skilled aged care workforce by:

  • providing residential care providers looking for employees, access to a pool of people who have relevant skills and experience; and
  • supporting students to complete their Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) through completion of their mandatory workplace placement

There are no costs to students or employers for using this service.

Information for Students

Students who are completing a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) qualification can register their availability to undertake a paid work placement at https://carecareers.powerhousehub.net/communities . The portal is arranged by state and territory, and then by region.

Aged Care employers are provided access to student profiles in geographically based talent communities in the portal on the basis that they will offer paid work placement to students seeking to complete their qualification.

This means employers are also required to collaborate with the Registered Training Organisation of students completing their work placement to ensure that all assessments can be completed.

Students will need to provide evidence of a valid police check and vaccination status to register. Students may also be required to complete additional screening or induction training to comply with individual employer requirements.

Information for Employers

Residential aged care providers who are looking to employ personal care workers and are able to support the completion of paid workplace placements can use this service.

Signed up residential aged care providers can access student profiles in their geographic location which will include details such as skills and experience, police check and vaccination status. The platform will support the matching of students in accordance with the identified skills and experience sought by the residential aged care provider.

Once a suitable candidate has been identified, the residential aged care provider will work with the Registered Training Organisation and student to negotiate the details of the work placement.
